Lighting is usually the last thing specified in a fit-out and the first thing that decides how a room feels at ten at night. We design and install DMX-controlled lighting built around how a venue actually trades, with a control layer somebody on shift can operate without being trained on it.

Lighting Somebody Can Actually Run
The failure mode for venue lighting is not the fixtures. It is a system only its installer can operate, so it ends up parked on one look for a year — usually the look it was left on the night it was commissioned. That is a wasted investment, and it is entirely avoidable.
We build the show file around the way the room trades. A handful of presets that match the parts of the evening, reachable from a wall panel or a tablet, and a way back to something sane when a guest has been pressing buttons. Deeper control stays available for whoever wants it, but nobody needs it to open on a Tuesday.
Onyx is our usual control platform. It runs on a console or on a PC and the same show file moves between them, which matters when a venue starts with a laptop and later wants a fixed panel. ENTTEC handles the interfaces, nodes and pixel drivers that get DMX from the control layer out to the fixtures, and that is where most of the practical design work lives: universe planning, addressing, and knowing where a data run stops being reliable.
Pixel Tape, and Why It Goes Wrong
Addressable LED tape is the most common thing we get called in to fix. It is cheap to buy, and every part of what makes it work — power injection intervals, data run length, the driver's pixel budget, the difference between a fixture that dims smoothly and one that steps — is invisible at purchase time.
A run that is under-injected shifts colour toward its far end, usually to a dull red, and no amount of controller adjustment brings it back. A data run past its limit does not fail cleanly either; it flickers on some frames and not others, which reads as a faulty controller and gets the controller replaced. Both are design decisions made before anything is bought.
So the pixel budget and the injection plan get worked out on paper, with the driver chosen for the count rather than the count squeezed into whatever driver was ordered.
Video, Where the Room Wants It
Some rooms want moving image rather than more light — a projection surface behind a stage, a mapped feature wall, content that changes with the night. Resolume is the media server we use for that. It plays and maps content, takes live input, and can be driven alongside the lighting control so the video and the lights are not two systems competing for one operator's attention.
The honest caveat is that mapped projection is a commitment. It needs throw distance, surface, ambient light control, and content somebody keeps current. Where a room cannot give it those, we will say so rather than install something that looks impressive at handover and is switched off by spring.
Taking Over Somebody Else's Rig
A large share of this work is inherited. A previous installer left, the laptop with the show file went with them, and the room has been on one scene ever since. That is recoverable more often than people expect.
We document what is actually in the room, find out what is addressable and what is not, and tell you honestly whether the sensible move is a new control layer around the existing fixtures or replacing fixtures that were never going to do what you wanted. Sometimes the answer is that the rig is fine and only the control was ever the problem.

Can our staff run the lighting without training?
That is the design brief. The show file gets built around presets that match how the room trades, reachable from a panel or a tablet, with a clear way back to a default. Deeper control is there for anyone who wants it, but running the room does not require it.
Do you work with lighting that is already installed?
Often — it is a large share of this work. We document what is in the room, find out what is actually addressable, and tell you whether it is worth rebuilding the control layer around the existing fixtures or replacing them.
Which lighting platforms do you work with?
Onyx for control, ENTTEC for interfaces, nodes and pixel drivers, and Resolume where a room wants video and projection mapping. We are not tied to a single manufacturer for fixtures — those get chosen for the room.
Why does our LED tape look different at one end?
Almost always power injection. Voltage drops along the run, so the far end is being driven at less than the near end, and it shifts colour — usually toward a dull red. It is fixed by injecting power at intervals along the run, which is a design decision that has to be made before the tape and driver are bought.
Can the lighting work with our audio and video system?
Yes, and it should. Putting the lighting on the same control layer as the music and the screens is the difference between one interface a manager uses and three that get ignored.
